A Service Celebrating the Appointment of a District Superintenden

Submitted by Kathy Smith

On September 9th at the Plymouth UMC our new District Superintendent, Rev. Tae- sung Kang, was installed. It was a beautiful service with praise music led by the Electric Praise Band. There were many participants representing the many leadership ministries of our district, including people who are Elders (both active and retired), Deacons, Local Pastors, Certified Lay Ministers, Candidates for Deaconess and other ministries, and laity (including the Dis- trict Lay Leader).

Other participants were Peter Tempeton on piano, Hyung Kyu-Yi on organ, Julie Kye-cross bearer. Catherine Gaffey, Victoria Wood Parrish, Dwight Haynes, and Peter Hey read the scriptures. The anthem offering was the “Prayer of St. Francis” sung by the Korean Pastor’s Choir (in Korean) directed by Hyung Kyu-Yi (our past organist). Even though I didn’t understand the words the sound was beautiful.
With the bulletin they gave out little cards representing a sticky note; one side had: 5.5.5 Prayer: Every Friday, at 5 PM, for 5 minutes (Be Still) He would like everyone to take this time to pray. Even though we are not together we will lift up our voices together. When 2-3 gathered in His name (Get Ready), gathering together is a time to help us grow in our faith. He would like to see more small groups started to prepare us to be a 100% missional Church (GO OUT). We are a missional church but to do missions we need to go out, not just send money. We need to go out into our community to help where it is needed.
The other side of the card is a scripture from 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 MSG: “Be cheer- ful no matter what; pray all the time; Thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to Live.”
