Spring is here and summer is coming fast. Don’t forget outdoor safety. Be sure to pro- tect yourself from tick and mosquito bites; Lyme disease is on the rise and there are other bugs that are being transferred by ticks. Mosquito’s also can carry viruses and bacteria that can be deadly or make you very sick.
Then there is the sun! We all are so happy when we finally have warm sunny days and we need to be out in the sun which helps our bodies produce the important vitamin D that we need. But, too much sun can be harmful in the long run; especially with sun burns and also skin cancers. All are treatable if caught early, some of these cancers are not deadly, but can be very disfiguring if not taken care of, and some like Melanoma can be deadly. Melanoma doesn’t need the sun either. So it is important to get checked at least once a year. These can- cers take a long time to show so the sunburn you had as a child can hurt you now.
Every month on the second Thursday and Friday we have an On-Site Dermatology clinic here at the church. It is covered by most insurances and is open to the public. All you need to do is call 1-800-345-5300 to make an appointment. Even if you don’t have insurance or have a high deductible it is less expensive than going to a doctor in Concord. At least have your PCP look you over at your yearly exam. They are not experts but can usually tell if something may need looking at by a dermatologist.
So let’s have a fun, safe and healthy summer. Get out and get some Vitamin N (nature) it’s good for your body, mind and soul.
Remember: The first and third Friday is Vitamin N (Nature) day. Meet at the church at 10 AM and we’ll go enjoy the great outdoors. We will cancel if it’s raining.
The fourth Sunday every month there is a Blood Pressure clinic after church in the library.
Remember that if you call me with your health concerns, I am here to be your advocate, and guide to help you be the best you can be.
