02/2018 Health "Your Body is the Temple of God"

If you were in church during January, you received Model for Healthy Living inserts in the bulletin. Hopefully the questions and action points made you think about how you can live a healthier and more balanced life. If you did not receive them, ask for them in an e-mail to the church, or come and check the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall.
To reach some of the health goals spoken of in the Model for Healthy Living, February is the month that is dedicated to Healthy Hearts.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. Psalm 51:10

In this last year we have had several of our members go through some type of heart surgery. Some of the problems were life style related some were not. How can we support them, and how can we help ourselves live a life so that we don’t have to face going through the same process.
What does the Bible say about staying healthy? I think one of the most important verses about this is 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own,
for you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.

Now our life style didn’t happen overnight so we can’t change it over night. Start with an overall goal, then break it down into small goals one you can accomplish; by doing so, you will keep going toward your larger goal. If you have someone to be accountable to, that will help you as well. It is always easier to reach your goals with someone else to share it with. That is where the Health Ministries Team can help.
On the fourth Sunday of the month there is a blood pressure clinic; it can also include a weigh in, and a time to share your progress or failures. Yes failures; we all fail from time to time. Learning from our failures is what makes us stronger, as long as we don’t let them derail us. So come and share, be part of this faith community and let us help each other make our bodies into temples of the Holy Spirit.
