Who is a Caregiver?
A caregiver is a family member or paid helper who regularly looks a er a child or a sick, elderly, or disabled person. Caregiving is a hard job, even if you don’t need to do much physically for your loved one. If you do need help with the basic necessi es (i.e. bathing, dressing, feeding, etc.) it is much harder.
Did you know that there may be help you can tap into? There are many resources available. Most important is to remember that as the caregiver you need to take care of your- self. If you don’t, you can’t help the person you are caring for. One of the hardest things to do is to ask for help, but it is there! Please speak to Kathy Smith, our Parish Nurse. You may also speak to Pastor Jim, Service Link, or your doctor. The important thing is to ask!
May is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month
- Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States. Ultraviolet (UV) radia on from the sun is the main cause of skin cancer. UV damage can also cause wrinkles and blotches or spots on your skin. The good news is that skin cancer can be prevented, and it can almost always be cured when it’s found and treated early. Take simple steps today to protect your skin:
Stay out of the sun as much as possible between 10 AM and 4 PM
Use sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher. Put on sunscreen every 2 hours and after you swim or sweat.
Cover up with long sleeves and a hat.
Check your skin regularly for changes.
Contact Kathy at 524-1330 for more informtion and remember that there is a Dermatologist here at the church once a month. You can contact the dermatologist at 1-877-345- 5300 to make an appointment.
Health and Wellness Fair
In May 2016 we had a Community Health and Wellness Fair here at the church. There were 33 exhibitors and some also did assessments and lectures. This fall we are planning to hold another health and wellness fair with a tenta ve date set as September 15th. Although it is months away, there are some things that need to be done now, and some just before the fair. People will be needed to volunteer to help nd sponsors, volunteer to be guides during the fair, set up, clean up, mailings, phone calls etc. If you are interested, please let Kathy Smith know. This is an important outreach to our community.
