One of our mission projects for 2015 is New Beginnings. We have worked to help this shelter in the past and are again going to help them.
They are seeking material and cash donations to help fami-lies and individuals dealing with domestic violence meet daily basic needs. Financial donations can be made payable to First United Methodist Church and on the memo line please write New Begin-nings
Items needed are Winter Boots (women and children), Snow jackets (all sizes), Disposable diapers (size 4-plus), Pillows (new), Towels (bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths),
The Visitation Team has now met for several months. They have visited approximately 19 people a month with an average of 14 people going out to visit. There has been a very positive response on both sides of the visitations.
If you are interested in joining this team, please come and see what it's all about. The team is meeting the first Tuesday of the month at 2:00 PM, but we do have some who can't make that time and go on their own. Visits are usually done with two people going out to-gether. It is flexible but we do keep track of who is being visited so we can tell if someone is being missed.
If you know of someone who would like a visit let us know. The person doesn't have to be a member of the church to have someone visit; everyone is a child of God so it is our pleas-ure to bring God's light to those who want it. If you know of someone needing a visit, please let Kathy Smith know.
There is a great need for food products at the Common Pantry. Please bring non-perishable foods and put them in the box in the narthex. This can include soups, pasta and sauces, cereal, peanut butter, crackers, and any other non-perishable foods you can find. Thank you.
Hands Across The Table
Every Wednesday night there is a free community dinner held at the St. Andrew Bassette parish hall. Doors open at 4 and dinner is served at 5.
Every other month (Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep, Nov) we provided people to serve the guests, bus tables, and clean up. If this is something you would like to be involved with please call Barbaray Madden at 267-8677.
This is a wonderful opportunity to serve those in our community who need help or just company. It is open to all.
Video and Sound System
We are looking for help with the Sunday service video and sound system. What we woud like is several groups to help on a rotating bases. That way no one is dedicated to it every Sunday and there will always be someone available if needed. If you think you would like to see what it's about let Kathy Smith know before/after church. Or you can email - firstname.lastname@example.org. She will be happy to set up a time to go over what to do. We have put together a book with all the information of how to run the system. There have been people who have come to check out our church after seeing us on TV, so this is an important minis- try. Also, the sermons are now shown on YouTube and on our website. Come enjoy the fun.
